BCG Week Two:

After a little bit of a stressful week last week this Tuesday and BCG treatment number two seemed to roll around a little bit quicker than I would have liked.
I was pretty tired last week and I seem to have developed a bit of a cold. I have no idea if its BCG related or just bad timing but I was pretty wiped out and ready for a nice weekend.

Unfortunately we had a gas leek on Saturday morning and we're forced to move out of our house for a few nights. Luckily we could stay at my parents and it was nothing too major, just a little inconvenient and annoying. It was fixed on Monday and I'm very happy to be back in my own bed this week!

It did mean that I didn't really have time to think about or prepare for week two of treatment, but it all went ahead as normal at 10am.

It was a little bit more painful this week but the nurse said that was normal because of inflammation. I like to think I have quite a high pain threshold, but I'm hoping it doesn't get too bad as the weeks go on.

The biggest struggle I had this week was not being able to drink before hand/2 hours after. My cold meant I woke up feeling quite groggy, with a really dry mouth and I seriously missed my morning brew. By lunch time I had a cracking headache and as soon as I could I had my first cuppa and some painkillers and it was all down hill from there;

I left Oscar with my mum and went for a lie down in the hopes that my headache would disappear quicker, then at almost exactly 4 hours post treatment and right on time my symptoms began to kick in: I needed to wee every 20 minutes or so and it oh wow, it burned! Getting up and down so much was doing nothing for my head and it just got worse and worse.

I felt sick and flu-y and worried that my headache was quickly becoming a migraine I took some more painkillers. I lay there and waited it out for a few hours before I finally started to feel a little better. I manged to eat something and slowly I felt more like myself. We got home and I pretty much went to bed at the same time as Oscar.

I'm really glad I did because I woke up this morning feeling a lot better. Still a little flu-y but the burning when I got to the loo has pretty much stopped. I did have some bladder pain which was a little concerning, but after triple checking I was A-Okay to have a bath, I did and the hot water seemed to sort it out :)

All the talk of side effects from BCG and I feel like I'm starting to get it now. I'm a bit more apprehensive for future treatments as I've heard things can really kick off after week 3, but I know that in reality I'm still really lucky, as treatment could be a whole load worse.

I also try to remind myself that BCG has a good success rate and if this works it would be the best news ever in terms of future treatments and quality of life etc, so I'm more than ready to put up with quiet a lot for that potential outcome.

I'm also very much focused on Christmas when this will all be over and you will mainly find me in a food and red wine coma, by our newly working fire!

Thanks for reading :)
