About

At the start of 2018 I was a newly married 27 year old, enjoying married life, looking forward to a fantastic honeymoon and I’d  just found out I was expecting my first baby. Things were great! ...until all of a sudden they weren’t.

At an early 7 week pregnancy scan, doctors found a 4cm mass in my bladder, and our journey with Bladder Cancer and pregnancy began.

It’s been a whirlwind few months of doctors appointments, hospital visits and way more needles than I ever thought I could cope with. I had surgery on 14th May and luckily they found out that my cancer is superficial. Unfortunately bladder cancer has a nasty habit of coming back so il be having cystoscopies every 3 months for at least the next 10 years, as well as chemotherapy directly into my bladder once I have given birth.

Before my journey with cancer began I thought it was all very black and white, I’m starting to realise that there a million shades of grey in between. Living with cancer can be a daily struggle but it is still living and this is a blog about how we are doing that, learning to get on with and make the most of our new lives!

I started this blog becise when I was diagnosed it felt like a very lonely and isolating place. It’s not everyday you come across someone with bladder cancer during pregnancy. I wanted to share my story for anyone out there going through something even remotely similar and to raise awareness of bladder cancer, one of the most common, but hardly ever talked about cancers.

Since starting the blog however I’ve realised how much it is helping me too. Being able to write about my experience has really helped me to process everything that has happened over the last few months and helped me come to terms with my diagnosis.

Thank you for joining me on this journey.
