Last Sunday we had our baby shower with a bit of a difference! Initially, before I found out I was pregnant and in the first few weeks before we received my diagnosis I was almost certain I didn’t want a baby shower at all.
My sister had one a couple of years ago, close to the end of what was at that time a seemingly pretty nice pregnancy. We celebrated, played some games, ate the food and watched her open all the presents as we drank our own (and her) fair share of Prosecco!
One week later she was in absolute agony and diagnosed with obstetric cholestatis, a problem with her liver which could be really harmful to the baby and they had to bring the birth forward by almost a month. Just like that we went from celebrating to worrying and it all felt a little bit like counting our chickens before they hatched.
After my diagnosis it was an uncertain time for us, not celebrating the pregnancy and not really knowing what the outcome would be. After my successful surgery we wanted to throw ourselves head first into all things baby related and get excited about our little miracle baby as much as possible. I also desperately wanted to be able to do something to raise money for the charity that has helped me so much in those early, terrifying days! I couldn’t do a walk or a run or anything like that so I began to think of other ways I could help!
I found out the Macmillan coffee morning was due to happen on 28th September and thought this was a good time to have a baby shower coffee motioning and raise some cash for this great cause! I also worked with Macmillan to share my story, helping them raise awareness of bladder cancer and promote their coffee morning event. You can read the article again

We decided we would do a bake off, bringing back a tradition we started at our wedding last year. We asked family and friends to bring along their bakes and pitted them against each other in a little bit of friendly competition! I love how much everyone embraced it all over again and got involved!
And now for the big important bit!...we managed to raise
£243.39 for Macmillan! We wanted to say a huge huge thank you to everyone who came and got involved and all our amazing gifts for us and our little guy. We feel very lucky to have some amazing people in our lives and now we feel as ready as we'll ever be for our little guys arrival!
Thanks for reading :)
